The Mind Behind the Story
Max McCall - Co Director
As a director, I’ve been passionate about filmmaking. From a young age, I knew I wanted to tell stories through the narrative of film, and that passion never faded.
As a passionate filmmaker always open to other experiences to help me tell my stories i had the opportunity to work as a carer and that job had a profound impact on me that motivated me to want to tell their story.
The Quiet Soul is not just a film about care, it’s a story about loss, about connection, and about the power of non-verbal communications.
It explores what it means to form friendships without words and how people express themselves in ways beyond speech.
I saw firsthand how residents communicated through gestures, routines, and simple actions. Some would show they wanted to go for a walk by grabbing their coat, others would signal hunger by taking a bowl from their special cupboard. But what really touched my heart was one resident would crawl up and cuddle people as a way of expressing affection.
These moments were small but profound, and they revealed how deeply people can connect without ever saying a word. Unfortunately I saw what loss means, this is also a key theme in this story, this affected me more than I ever expected.
With The Quiet Soul, I want to pour all those emotions, grief, connection, and the beauty of unspoken communication, into a story that is both deeply personal and universally relatable. This film is not just a reflection of my experience, but also a testament to the ways we connect, even in silence.
